My Sandwich Adventure

Okay, it’s been awhile since I’ve done a blog post, so I thought I’d toss a new one up online. So what terribly exciting topic shall I write about. A sandwich! Yep, my life is so filled with one exciting adventure after another. (Feel free to jump over to facebook and find something interesting to read)

So, Brenner (my dog) and I were finishing up our walk down Douglas Trail. He was great by the way, walked the last quarter of it off leash. (Shhh, don’t tell anyone. Dogs are suppose to be on a leash on Douglas Trail) We hop in the car and head back to the apartment. On the way home I decided I want a sub but, distracted by a fly on my window, I missed the turn to Subway. No biggie, I realized I’d rather a Jimmy Johns sandwich anyway. So I head downtown but half way there I realize I am uncertain where exactly the store is located. I drive up 1st Ave but no luck.

Unable to find it, I swing into TopShots to get directions. Directions received, I head back out on the road in search for the lost city of Jimmy Johns. Finally I locate it up on 3rd Ave. No parking in front so I had to parallel park around the corner. It wasn’t a pretty parking job, but sufficient enough. I run around the corner and head inside for my oh so good sandwich. But wait, I left my wallet back in the poorly park car. So after a round trip to the car and back, I’m at the counter placing my order. I slide my card across the counter top. They slide it back, and tell me it’s free. I laugh, “Free?” Apparently, I’m the customer of the day. Finally, my journey is complete, I have my prize.

Now seriously, stop wasting your time reading the dull ass excuse for an adventure. Later. ; )

Darts: Dart League 2011, Final Standings

So we are done with our dart season for this year, and finished in first place!!!

This year the competition was a lot harder. Still, individually, we did pretty good. In cricket games we have 3 of the top 9, and in 501 we have 4 of the top 9. There are 11 four man teams, so basically 44+ people (subs) in the league.

So, we defended our title again, and three-peated as champs in the Open Cricket League for the Rochester area.

We also entered the D&R Star 501 team tournament. (they don’t have a team cricket) We were placed in level 2. (Basically there are 7 levels, 1a-1b-2-3-4-5-6, highest to lowest) In our level we had 5 brackets (team are randomly assigned) with 5 or 6 teams per bracket. Each bracket is a round robin tournament with the top two moving on to day 2. We won our bracket and advanced. So day 2 was 10 team, double elimination bracket. We manage to run the winners side and win the whole thing. Woohoo!

Doesn’t sound like much, does it? Sounds doable, right? That’s the point. Keep the first target small enough so that you believe it’s very possible and you don’t get overwhelmed by thinking it’s too much or too hard or just plain impossible. Keep it doable and do it. As oppose to too imposing and quitting.

So that’s my first goal, 15 pounds by end of June. For at least five days a week, two of my meals will be yogurt, fruit and grains; and I’ll exercise at least 30 minutes everyday. For the time being I’ll track my exercise commitment here.

Hopefully, I’ll be seeing this number come way down.

Golf: Blow up of the year!!! (maybe decade for me)

So my first round of the year was a roaring success for me, with a final score of 79.

My second round, not so much. Front 9 I always seemed to be just one away from a par. Finally, back 9 I start hitting them with 4 pars in a row. Then there’s hole 16, a par 3. I put my tee shot on the green, looking good. Long putt, up a sideways slope. I didn’t hold the side slope, role off the green, down the hill side, 20 meters away from the pin. I hit it just to back of green. Chip again, hit the slope again, down the hill side, 20 meters away. Anyway, so I was on that par 3 in 1, and ended up with an 8. Recovered well for 17 with a par, but when my drive went into the trees twice on 18, I pretty much gave up, ending in an 11.

Now understand, when I say it rolled 20 meter down the hill side, these were not blasted putts or bladed chips. This was a very scary placed pin, where if you went that one extra inch too far, you ended up 20 meters too far.

P90X Week 1 Done

So I finished week 1 yesterday and started week 2 today. Lost almost 5 pounds first week. Be nice to keep up those numbers, but I’d assume it’s faster at first and slows down in time.

So each of the first 3 weeks starts with Core Synergistics, which I got to tell you, were one of my least favorite in week 1. But I didn’t mind them so much today. I can already feel progress between 1 week. Whereas last week I was lucky to do half of what they did, this week I say I did around 75% to 85% overall.

I will say that week 1 the three routines I disliked the most were Core Synergistics, Ab Ripper X and Yoga X. I am already starting to like Core Synergistics, and I’m hoping when my abs get a little stronger, the ab ripper x won’t be so brutal. But I don’t know about this yoga x. First off it’s 90 mins long and falls on my Thursdays, the day of the week when I have less time than any other. Second, I’m sure it has benefits and stuff, but I’m not sure what they are exactly and therefore am not so committed to spending 90 mins of my busiest day doing them. I may change it up for 60 mins on the bike. We’ll see how this week goes.

I am doing pretty good on the diet, although I haven’t given up my beer (ie: aiming fluid for darts and pool) and am doing educated guess some days since I’m not much of a chef and tend to eat out a lot with friends. But now I have the chicken or fish, salads instead of fries, no burgers or subs (ie: no bread) and my snacks are fruits, veggies, frozen fruit bars, protein bars, etc. I have the occasional cup of tea but I hear that’s allowed anyway.

I think as long as I stick to the exercises everyday and eat healthier, I’ll get there eventually hopefully.

Dang that P90X!!

Dang that P90X!!

So today was my first day on P90X, and for my out of shape self, it wasn’t easy. I’d say I did just a little more than half of what they did, but obviously nowhere near all of it. They say that is fine and that you’ll get there over the course of the program. I figure I was working up a sweat and I went for the full duration of the video, I just did less reps of some of the exercises. Just got to keep it up now I guess, and I’ll eventually get there.

Pool: Winter Leagues

Sorry for not having a blog post recently, been keeping pretty busy. But now I’m back with news of our winter leagues, Darts and Pool. We are 2 weeks into dart league and 3 into pool league and I have yet to post on a blog updating how we are doing thus far.

Pool
Team name: Poolhall Junkies

Summarized: First two weeks we did great, going 4-2 both weeks. Individually I sucked the second week, but as a team we managed the 4 wins. The third, unfortunately, was not so kind. We went 1-5, and dropped from second in the league down to sixth. However, we were playing the number one team in the league. Hopefully, we can pick it back up this week.

Notes: Tony is still in the top five in the league, currently in third.

Darts

Team name: Blame it on the Beer

Summarized: First week we had a little rust, and lost 5-7. Luckily, it appeared that the entire league was a little rusty. There were only two players in the league with higher than two averages. The second week, we were back in fine form, with all four of us shooting above a 2.20 average, winning our match 11-1. Now to keep it going this week.

Notes: Although we only have 4 regulars, we required a sub the first week, so we have had 5 people play for us so far. All 5 are in the top 10 in cricket averages, and 4 of us are in the top 10 in 501 averages.
