Rant: Granted, I’m a Hab Hater, but ….

.. I think in this case I have some merit. Many, not all, Montreal Canadian fans, much like Green Bay Packers fans, are all too often blind to the facts. True, many fans of many teams are, and maybe I’ve just had the misfortune of running into many of this type of fan for these particular teams. However, when my team loses to a better team, I’m very capable of saying they were out matched. Likewise, when they win a game in which they were out played, I am more than willing to say they got lucky.

But Green Bay and Montreal fans generally don’t see things as they are, but instead as a parent, who’s kid can do no wrong. Their team loses to a better team, and it was bad refereeing. They win a game in which they were out played, it never happened, they owned the other team the whole game.

Last two games of the Pittsburgh-Montreal series, Montreal down 3-2 in the series, Pittsburgh out shoots them 76 to 45, and loses both games. Most hockey fans would acknowledge that Montreal’s goalie, Halak, carried them into the next round. Noooooooo! Montreal fans will disagree, and instead claim they outplayed Pittsburgh and deserved their victories. And don’t give me the argument that Halak is part of the ‘team’, so the ‘team’ did outplay them. A hot goalie, much like a hot quarterback, can carry a team. Nothing wrong with that, just own up to it!

Anyway, that’s my rant! I probably should have waited until the distaste of the Montreal victory wasn’t as fresh, combined with the facebook chatter, I felt it had to be said. : )

In any case, deserved or carried, whatever you believe, congrats Montreal fans, enjoy your victory. For now!!!
