Comic Book to Big Screen

Everyone knows that the Spiderman series is starting over. Likewise I’m sure everyone expects there to be a new Batman sequel in the not so distant future. Of course most of else are aware that, over the next two years, Iron Man 2, Thor, Nick Fury and The First Avenger: Captain America, are all on the horizon, and that they eventually will, along with the Incredible Hulk, all be combined into the one movie, The Avengers in 2012. For us ‘comic-book-to-big-screen’ fans, this in itself is big news.

But there are some lesser known comic books heroes coming/returning to the big screen. Read on to see what others are due out over the next couple of years……

So Ryan Reynolds seems to be busy these days in the comics world. He was recently seen in X-Men Origins: Wolvervine. Prior to that he was in Blade: Trinity. And now, in 2011, he’s schedule to not only resurrect his role as Deadpool in a movie of the same name, but to star as the Green Lantern, also in a movie of the same name. Mark Strong (the bad guy in Sherlock Holmes) was recently signed to play his mentor/arch-nemesis Sinestro.

Back to X-Men. Two new X-Men movies are in the works. X-Men Origins: Wolvervine 2 will start filming in 2011 for an early 2012 release. Being so early in the process, there is not much listed for the plot. Just, “Wolverine travels to Japan to train with a samurai warrior”. Also in the works is X-Men: First Class, which from what I can tell, may be about the first set of students coming out of Xavier’s school.

Bruce Willis mentioned a possible sequel to Unbreakable. But the real reason I mention this here is not related to comics. He was also quoted as saying he believes next year they will begin work on Die Hard 5.

“I think we’re going to do a Die Hard 5 next year,” Willis told the site. He also added that he would like to see an international feel to the new film. “It’s got to go worldwide,” the actor said about the potential plotline. “That would be my contribution to it.” He also said that he would like Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman to direct this new film.

Other possible comic book movies in the early talks:
1. Fantastic Four
2. Venom
3. Iron Man 3
4. Silver Surfer
5. Time Jumper
6. Foreverman
7. Tigress
8. Nick Rachet
9. Blaze
10. Legion of 5
