Pool: Pool team meeting

August 14 | Posted by DennisR | Blogs

I got to the meeting about 7:30 or so.  The wife worked late and Joey isn’t quite old enough to watch his sister yet. :)   Not a whole lot to tell as there are no rule changes.

One hot topic was why does D and R keep buying team plaques for the sponsors if they don’t want them.  Apparently the North Star, and maybe other bars, just dump the plaques in the closet.  Wayne told us that if we want to we can ask our bar if they really want the plaque if we finish in the top 3 spots at the end of the year.  If the bar doesn’t want them then we need to let D and R know this.  They will then take the money that would have been spent on the bar plaque and add it back into the year end payback.  Wayne likes to give the bars the plaques to show appreciation.  I think the bars appreciate our $$ more than anything else, after all, it is a business.

The banquet will be held the Saturday after the year end tournament, location TBD.  There was some talk of removing the door prices, which has a $1000 budget.  It’s not clear to me if this money would then go back into the year end payback or not.  It seems like that would be the logical thing to do with the money, but this is D and R so who knows.

One topic that a couple of us talked about amongst ourselves was trying to get D and R to shorten up the pool season.  One of the guys told us about how the bowlers wanted to shorten up their season.  The league operators said sure, we can shorten the season but you’ll be paying more each week so that the total amount paid in is the same as last year.  I guess 45% of the players said that it was worth it to them to shorten up the season.  The more we talked about it the more it seems like this will never happen with the pool league.  The bars get a lot of business from the pool leagues.  They would not want to see the season shortened so I don’t see that happening.

As I was leaving the Elks I ran into Wayne having a smoke outside.  Oh, that reminds me, apparently the North Star has a smoking patio.  One of the guys said that right now it’s just a big dog kennel.  I’m not sure what the plans are for it but it just made me laugh.  Anyway…Wayne asked me where we were shooting this year.  I told him about my reservations about playing at Billy Macs if they are going to be moving the tables around.  He suggested a place but I cannot remember the name of it now.  I think he said something that had 22 in the name of it.  We need to talk to Brad and find out if they are going to be moving the tables around.

That wraps up this year’s team meeting.  Hard to believe pool season is almost here.  I need to get downstairs and get to practicing.

So, given your conversation with Wayne, I assume you didn’t fill out a sign-up sheet last night? When does that have to be in by?

Your friend was talking about the new bar in town called Catch 22. It’s the old Leo’s Pizza place.
